Appointed to the I.C.S., 1894; served in Bengal; Under-Secretary to Government, Financial and Municipal Department, 1899; Registrar of the High Court, Calcutta, 1901; Deputy Secretary to the Government of India (Legislative Dept.), 1905; District and Sessions Judge, in Bengal, 1910; in Bihar and Orissa, 1912. Acting Judge of the High Court, Calcutta, 1916; retired, 1920. For some years had acted as polo correspondent to the Daily Telegraph; an ardent player and a most astute student of the game.
