Trevelyan, 186, note): 'the University Lyre, which for long past had given forth very feeble strains, was just then falling into the hands of a Cheltenham Freshman, Mr Frederic Myers.' Resided at Leckhampton House, Grange Road, Cambridge, 1881-1901. His most notable work was done in the field of psychical research; with his friends Henry Sidgwick, Balfour Stewart, Hodgson, Edmund Gurney and Podmore, founded the Society for Psychical Research, 1882. Married Miss Evelyn Tennant. Author, Essays Classical and Modern; Human Personality and its Survival after Bodily Death; with Gurney and Podmore, Phantasms of the Living; also poems, notably St Paul; The Renewal of Youth; The Passing of Youth.
