June 1, 1759. Schools, Westminster and Charterhouse (Dr Berdmore). Had succeeded his father as 10th Earl, Apr. 26, 1774. M.A. 1778. 'While at the University he formed a friendship with Mr Pitt which continued through the life of that illustrious statesman.' Joint Postmaster-General, 1789. P.C., 1789. Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland , 1790-4; being opposed to Catholic Emancipation, was recalled by Pitt in 1794. K.G., 1793. Master of the Horse, 1795-8. Lord Privy Seal, 1798-1806 and 1807-27.
