Richard WHITFORD Alias: Richard WHYTFORD Fellow of QUEENS', 1497-1504 . Said to have studied at Oxford [ Oxfordshire ]; nephew of Richard Whytford (whose will (P.C.C.) 1511 ; of Sion monastery [ Middlesex ], and of Flintshire ). Granted leave of absence for five years, 1497, to accompany William Blount, Lord Mountjoy as chaplain and confessor, abroad: made the acquaintance of Erasmus. Chaplain to Richard Foxe, bishop of Winchester [ Hampshire ]. Afterwards entered the Brigetine House at Isleworth, Middlesex , known as Syon monastery [ Middlesex ], c 1507 ; on its dissolution retired to London . Author, devotional and theological. Living, 1541 ; probably died c 1555 .
