While an undergraduate, brought to England the first camera to pass the London Custom House; took it to College and practised on his friends.
A copy of the original Daguerreotype, showing a 'Breakfast Party' of undergraduates, is in the possession of his family.
Manager of the Liverpool branch of the firm of Vivian and Sons, copper smelters, 1842; manager of the Swansea branch, 1845.
On his father's death, in 1855, greatly developed the works. 'Under his influence, Swansea became "the metallurgical centre" of the world.' M.P. for Truro, 1852-7; for Glamorganshire, 1857-85; for Swansea, 1885-93.
