A well-known classical scholar and poet. Intimate with Sir Edward Sherburne, John Hall, of Durham [ Co. Durham ], and James Shirley, the dramatist. Some of his MS. notes on classical authors are in the University Library. Married Dorothy, dau. of Sir James Enyon, Bart., of Flower, Northamptonshire . Author, History of Philosophy, etc. Published translations, including versions of Tasso, Petrarch and Lope de Vega, and also of Greek and of Latin poets.
