Fought with the patriot Army in the Spanish war of 1823 against Ferdinand VII; present at the battle of the Trocadero. An ardent follower of the agitator, O'Connell, who appointed him 'head pacificator'; arrested and tried with O'Connell, 1843. Shortly after O'Connell's death, attempted suicide by jumping from Waterloo Bridge but was rescued, dying a few days later at Peele's coffeehouse, Fleet Street, June 15, 1848.
