Gave up the law to learn book-binding, and opened a workshop in 1884. Associated with Burne-Jones and William Morris; opened the Doves bindery, 1893, at Upper Mall, Hammersmith. Founded the Doves Press, which issued 50 works during the course of its existence (1900-16), notably an English Bible (1903-5) and a Milton (1905). Died Sept. 7, 1922.
