Sailed to New England [cu] USA [/cu] with Bartholomew Gosnold, in 1602 . Accompanied George Weymouth on his voyage to Virginia [cu] USA [/cu], 1605 . Wrote an account of the voyage. Died 1635 . One of these names Master of Yarmouth Grammar School [ Norfolk ], 1598-1612. [But one James 'Roper' was admitted at the English College at Rome [ Italy ], 06 May, 1608, age about 30. He stated that he was the son of an English minister of Suffolk ; born at Winton ( sic ), near Ipswich [ Suffolk ], and M.A. of Pembroke College, Cambridge (no such graduate).
