Mytton, John. Adm. pens. at TRINITY, Jan. 16, 1816. [Only s. of John, of Halston, Shropshire (and Harriet, dau. of William Mostyn Owen). B. Oct. 30, 1796. [Grandson of the above.] Schools, Westminster and Harrow (from both of which he was expelled).] Doubtful if resided. Cornet, 7th Hussars, 1816; retired, 1817. Kept a large racing stable, but 'never bred a good horse.' M.F.H. 1817-21. M.P. for Shrewsbury, 1818-20, when he resigned his seat. High Sheriff of Shropshire and Merionethshire. Popularly known as 'Jack Mytton.' 'A man of great physical strength and foolhardy courage, with an inordinate love of conviviality, and a strongly developed taste for practical joking.' 'His average allowance was from four to six bottles of port daily, which he commenced in the morning while shaving.' Squandered the entire fortune, which he had inherited from his father at the age of two, and went into hiding from his creditors at Calais. Married (1) May 21, 1818, Harriet Emma, eldest dau. of Sir Thomas Tyrwhitt Jones, Bart., of Stanley Hall, Shropshire, and had one daughter; (2) Oct. 29, 1821, Caroline Mallett, 6th dau. of Thomas Giffard, of Chillington, Staffs., and had issue.
