The well-known poet and dramatist. For an account of his works see D.N.B. No definite information of his subsequent career is accessible; at an early date, attached himself to the Earl of Nottingham's theatrical company which produced most of his plays. Acquainted with the leading men of letters, including Raleigh. Probably personally acquainted with Shakespeare. His 'heretical' views attracted the attention of the authorities, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, 1593 .
Killed at Deptford in a drunken brawl. Buried there 01 Jun., 1593, by Francis Archer, as recorded in the Parish Register of St Nicholas, Deptford. ( Cooper, II. 158; D.N.B. ; H. G. Harrison.)
