Accompanied Sir Robert Gunning, as Chaplain and Secretary, to the British Embassy at Copenhagen, and was present at the palace revolution, 1772. V. of Peasmarsh, Sussex, 1785-1832. Tutor to the Beckford family, 1799. Preb. of Chichester, 1804-32. Chaplain to the Duke of Hamilton. Married (1) a daughter of John Newling, alderman of Cambridge (died 1788); (2) May 25, 1788, a daughter of Dr Hinckley, of St Mary Aldermanbury, London. Well known as a poet. Author, Letters on a Tour through various parts of Scotland, 1792; Poems; Sermons and translations from French and Italian. Died Oct. 18, 1832, at Peasmarsh.
