'In the midst of these various and arduous labours, Lardner carried on during several years an amour with Mrs Heaviside, the wife of Captain Richard Heaviside, a cavalry officer, and eloped with her in Mar. 1840.' Lardner had married in 1815 Cecilia Flood, but separated from her in 1829, and was divorced, 1849.
