A cousin of William Cowper, the poet (his mother's father, Roger Donne, being a brother of Cowper's mother). They were friends during Johnson's time at Cambridge, and he was Cowper's "Johnny of Norfolk ." Johnson took care of the poet during the last years of his life, and it was at Johnson's house at East Dereham [ Norfolk ] that he died on Apr. 25, 1800.
