Head Master of Manilla Hall, Clifton, 1861-81, which he founded because he was disappointed at not securing the headship of the newly established Clifton College. A born naturalist who discovered many new species of Rotifera. Excelled in music and drawing. F.R.S., 1889. Married (1) June 19, 1855, Mary Anne, elder dau. of W. B. Tibbits, Esq., of Braunston, Northants.; (2) June 24, 1858, Louisa Maria Foot, 2nd dau. of Freelove Hammond, Esq., of Clifton. Died Oct. 24, 1903, at Shanklin, Isle of Wight. Buried there.
