Head Master of Manilla Hall, Clifton, 1861-81, which he founded because he was disappointed at not securing the headship of the newly established Clifton College. A born naturalist who discovered many new species of Rotifera. Excelled in music and drawing. F.R.S., 1889. Married (1) June 19, 1855, Mary Anne, elder dau. of W. B.
