Fought at Edgehill [ Warwickshire ], 1642 . Created Baron Loughborough, 1643 . Governor of Leicester [ Leicestershire ], 1645 . Held Ashby House [ Leicestershire ] against the Parliament, till 1646 . Called 'Rob-Carrier' from the frequency with which he intercepted communications between London and the North. Escaped to Holland , 1649 . Appointed Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire , 1661, and granted a pension. Died Jan., 1666/7; buried at Windsor [ Berkshire ]. Brother of Ferdinando.
