Hazlerigg, Grey. Adm. pens. at ST JOHN'S, June 7, 1843. [3rd] s. of Sir Arthur Grey, Bart. [who altered the spelling of his name from Hesilrige, by Royal licence, to Hazlerigg, 1818], of Noseley, Leics. [and Henrietta Ann, dau. of John Bourne]. B. there [Mar. 13, 1818]. Bapt. Nov. 3, 1818. [Schools, Brighton and Eton.] Matric. Michs. 1843. Had entered the Army as a subaltern in the 48th Regt., 1837. On the accession of Queen Victoria he carried the colours of her Regt. through Manchester. Resigned his commission after a year's service, and entered Cambridge with the intention of taking Orders, but changed his views in favour of Nonconformity, and in 1848 became a minister of the Calvinistic Baptists. Settled in Leicester, 1850, becoming [p.306] pastor of Alfred Street Chapel. After 20 years the congregation removed to Zion Chapel in Erskine Street, Leicester, where he continued as pastor almost to the day of his death. Died Oct. 4, 1912, at Leicester. Father of the next.
