For many years a leading physician at Reading, and also well known as an antiquary. Historian of Reading Abbey, taking a keen interest in its preservation, and wrote several books on it. Author, Vicious Circles in Disease, translated into several languages; Vicious Circles in Sociology; Imhotep, a valuable contribution to the history of medicine. Gave a monument of Henry I to Reading. Retired from practice by 1920, and lived latterly at Bournemouth, where he died Feb. 13, 1930. Founded the Michael Foster Studentship, 1912.
