University of London, where he became a friend of Dr Woolley. Adm. at
Lincoln's Inn, Sept. 28, 1836. Called to the Bar, Jan. 25, 1841. Equity
Draftsman and Conveyancer. Practised at the Equity Bar until 1856, when he
migrated to Australia and was soon made a district court Judge; resigned this
position 1859, and entered politics. Solicitor-General of New South Wales,
1859-60 and 1863-5; Attorney-General, 1860-3. Reader in general jurisprudence
at Sydney University, 1858-65. Member of the Legislative Assembly and
Executive Council, N.S.W., 1859-61. Puisne Judge, 1865; primary Judge in
equity. First Judge of divorce court, 1873-84. Married, Sept. 20, 1843, Ann,
dau. of William Hargrave, Esq., of Woodhouse, Leeds. Edited Vol. I. of 21st
ed. of Blackstone's Commentaries, 1843. Died Feb. 23, 1885, at
