Staplehurst, from the effects of an accident while travelling on the Great
Eastern Railway in Mar. 1865. Benefactor to St John's. Father of Alfred
(1869), Charles (1863), Henry (next), and William (1866); brother of William

Wales, Australia, 1848-62. Founder and Secretary of the Worth Clerical
Association. Diocesan Inspector for Chichester Diocese. Suffered from
ill-health and was thus prevented from accepting any of the livings offered to
him. A good Hebrew scholar. Took part in the Colenso controversy. Married,
July 17, 1834, Araminta Anne, dau. of Lieut.-Gen. Sir John Hamilton, Bart.,
and had [p.391] issue. Author, theological, etc. Retired to Oakfield, Crawley,
Sussex, where he died Feb. 22, 1888. Brother of Henry (1823).
