1875-1900. Well known as a musician; conducted the Scarborough Orchestral
Society. Closely associated with Yorkshire lawn tennis; invented the
net-adjuster and folding umpire's chair used at tournaments. Author, The
Legendary Lore of the Holy Wells of England; A Glossary of Dialectical
Place-Nomenclature; English Goldsmiths; The Leper in England and English
Leper-Houses
. Compiled a Monumental History of Music, the MS. of which is
in the British Museum. Editor of Barnabe Goodge's Popish Kingdoms. Died
Dec. 18, 1926, at Wood Hall, Dulwich, which he and his wife had run as a
