1805. [2nd s. of Admiral Charles Powell Hamilton. B. May 22, 1781.] Matric.
Easter, 1806. Entered the Royal Navy, 1796; Lieut., 1802. In 1800 he was in
the frigate 'Phaeton' which escorted the Earl of Elgin as Ambassador to
Constantinople: 'Mr Hamilton...assisted in cutting-out the Spanish ship "San
Josef" near Malaga. Though shot through the thigh, he gallantly boarded with
the rest, and was highly spoken of for his conduct' (Gazette, 1800,
1280). Married, Apr. 2, 1806, Maria Catherine, dau. of John Hyde. Died Aug.
