Opened a preparatory school at Saltburn-on-Sea, 1877; transferred to Aysgarth,
in Wensleydale, 1877, and to Newton-le-Willows, near Bedale, 1890, retaining
the old name of Aysgarth School. A very successful teacher; twelve of his boys
in ten years obtained scholarships at Eton and were afterwards Newcastle
scholars. Lic. pr., dio. Ripon, 1887-1900. Died suddenly, Feb. 9, 1900, at the
school. Buried at St Mary's, Richmond. Brother of John W. (1855), etc.
