Hague, Charles. Mus.B. from TRINITY HALL, 1794; Mus.D. 1801. [B. May 4, 1769, at Tadcaster, Yorks.] Studied the violin under Manini at Cambridge and composition under Hellendaal the elder. At Manini's death, in 1785, removed to London, and studied under Salomon and Dr Cooke. Returning to Cambridge, he took pupils, among whom was Dr William Crotch. Succeeded Dr Randall as Professor of Music, 1799-1821. Composed By the Waters of Babylon, an anthem; Glees; Twelve Symphonies by Haydn, arranged as Quintets; The Ode, as performed in the Senate House at the installation of H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester, Chancellor of the University; A Collection of Songs (with Mr Plumptre, Fellow of Clare College). Married and had issue; his eldest daughter, Harriot, became an accomplished pianist and wrote songs. Died June 18, 1821, at Cambridge. (D.N.B.; C.U. Hist. Reg., 85; G.
