Lived for some time at Wootton Hall, Derbs., and then at Blackpool; at Darley Dale, Derbs., c. 1818-35 and at Shirland, Wyaston Grove, Willington and Pentrich. Noted for his piety; known as the 'Man of Prayer.' An ardent lover of nature; complimented by Wordsworth upon his descriptions of scenery. Author, The Vales of Wever; Reflections and other poems. His Diary was published with a Memoir by his daughter, Mrs Emma Nixon. Died June 17, 1851, at Pentrich. Brother of Thomas (1776); father of Frederic (1815) and Charles (1826). (Harrow Sch.
