Mag. state that at the same period that he was made P.C. of Barton-under-Needwood, he inherited Yoxall Lodge, three miles from his church, and passed the rest of his life there. St John's Coll. Adm., IV. 271, gives definitely that he was V. of Croxall, 1838-46, 'which he held with his Prebend, and apparently also Bartonunder-Needwood, until his death.' Married, Mar. 1, 1783, Mary, dau. of Thomas Babington, Esq., of Rothley Temple, Leics. An intimate friend of Wilberforce and well acquainted with Bishop Barrington, Bishop Ryder and Hannah More. A popular preacher, poet and hymn-writer. Uncle of C. C. Babington, and himself a botanist. Author, Principles of Moral Philosophy; Walks in a Forest in Germany, etc. Died Mar. 24, 1846.
