Grey, Ralph William. Adm. pens. (age 18) at TRINITY, June 19, 1798. S. of Ralph William (above), of Backworth, Northumberland. School, Hackney, London (Mr Newcombe). Migrated to Trinity Hall, Apr. 3, 1799 (as William). Succeeded his father in the Backworth House estate. A dispute arose between his family and the Duke of Northumberland, as to the right to work the coal lying beneath the estate: the case had gone to the assizes in his father's time, 1809, and the Duke had been non-suited. The dispute was finally ended by the Duke buying the estate. Lived for a time at Acton House, near Felton, and subsequently at Doncaster. Married Anne, dau. of the Rev. Sir Samuel Jervoise-Clarke, of Idsworth Park, Hants. Died in 1822, aged 42, at Doncaster. Father of the next. (R.
