detailed knowledge of the design of successive types of locomotives, and it
was said that 'no railway Director had ridden more miles upon the footplate.'
Head of an Anglo-French company formed to promote the project of an
Anglo-French tunnel under the Straits of Dover. An intimate friend of Francis
Markham, who frequently mentions him in Recollections o, a Town-Boy at
Westminster
. Governor of Westminster School, 1875-80 and 1889-1912.
Resided in Sussex Square, London, W., where he died May 18, 1912.
