[2nd, but only surviving] s. of Richard [1st] Baron Grosvenor [and Henrietta, dau. of Henry Vernon, of Hilton Park, Staffs.]. [B. Mar. 22, 1767.] Schools [Westminster (1777)] and Harrow. Matric. Michs. 1784; M.A. 1786. Styled Viscount Belgrave, 1784-1802. Succeeded as 2nd Earl Grosvenor, Aug. 5, 1802. Created Marquess of Westminster, Sept. 13, 1831. M.P. for East Looe, 1788-90; for Chester, 1790-1802. A Lord of the Admiralty, Aug. 12, 1789-91. Commissioner for Indian Affairs, 1793-1801. P.C., 1793. On his first entry into Parliament treated the House to a quotation from Demosthenes and was thereafter styled 'The Lord of Greek.' Owner of many of the most famous racehorses of the day. Married, Apr. 28, 1794, Lady Eleanor Egerton, dau. and sole heiress of Thomas, 1st Earl of Wilton, and had issue.
