the Court of King's Bench. B. Dec. 26, 1783, in St George-the-Martyr parish.

17, 1798. Entered the Army; Ensign in First Foot Guards, Dec. 25, 1805; Lieut.
and Capt., Sept. 26, 1811. Described by Byron in a note to Don Juan,
VIII. 18, as 'a very amiable and clever man, and his society in great request
for his wit, gaiety and chansons à boire.' Killed in action at Quatre Bras,
June 16, 1815; his name appears in Wellington's list of 'officers killed and
missing, June 16,' but in the original Gazette as 'Grove,' a fact to
which Byron made allusion in the above stanza. (Eton Sch. Lists (which

1810. Married Miss – Dennett, of the Isle of Wight. Died May 31, 1814, at
Petersfield, Hants. Buried in the Isle of Wight. Father of Edward (1801).
