(W. Gardiner). Of Dublin. Migrated to Corpus Christi, Nov. 11, 1795 (W.

'crier and factotum' to Judge Scott, and Margaret Nelson, his wife, a pastry
cook. B. June 22, 1766,
at Dublin. Educated at Mr Sisson Darling's Academy.] Matric. 1796; Scholar,

Academy, 1787, 1792
and 1793. Gave up painting for the stage. Became an engraver and worked abroad

set up as a bookseller and publisher in Pall Mall; his eyesight failed, and his
wife and child
having died, he became eccentric in dress and behaviour. Referred to under the
name of Mustapha in
Dibdin's Bibliomania. Illustrated Shakespeare, Dryden's Fables,
Memories of Grammont

etc. Committed suicide, May 8, 1814, 'in consequence of unbearable misery.'
See the biography
he left, printed in G. Mag., June, 1814, I. 622. (D.N.B.; Concise
