I. of St Jude's, Glasgow, 1843-58. Whilst at Glasgow went through the medical course, and graduated M.D. in 1854. Principal of Malta Protestant College, 1858-67. V. of St Peter's, Monk Wearmouth, Durham, 1867-83. At Monk Wearmouth, against much opposition, established a Dispensary, to which the Miles ward was added in 1890. Hon. Canon of Durham, 1872. Lived latterly at Kew. F.L.S.; Membre de la Société d'Histoire diplomatique de la France.
