Author of upwards of seventy published works; a volume of poems, The Widow of Nain and other poems, as early as 1817 had a great success and was followed by others, including The Outlaw of Taurus, and The Tragedies of Sophocles, translated into English verse, a work which brought his name into general notice; his principal publications were sermons and doctrinal works, which included Access to God, five discourses preached before the University in 1832, and a similar series published in 1836.
