[add:]Herewith, some sources, which go some way towards proving his parentage[:add]
[add:]It is thought that he was born in Calais, [France], and I believe that to be correct[:add]
[add:]See Charles Henry Cooper, Athenae cantabrigienses (Vol. 2)[:add]
[add:]This states that Copcott's brother left £10 for poor fellows of Corpus Christi College (Bennet College)[:add]
[add:]I suggest that Reynold COPCOT of Middelburg, United Provinces, Holland , is that brother[:add]
[add:]He left money to poor fellows of both Corpus Christi College and Trinity College [:add]
[add:] Reynold COPCOT was s. of Adam COPCOTT Calais merchant: [:add]
[add:] Adam COPCOTT 3rd husband of Elizabeth LONDON PLANCKNEY widow of Henry PLANCKNEY [:add]
[add:]They married in London , 1545 but lived in Calais, [France], where their sons were born[:add]
[add:]This would make John COPCOT about 16 when he entered Corpus Christi College [:add]
[add:]I am pretty sure he is elder brother of Reynold COPCOT [:add]
[add:] Reynold COPCOT 's Will is available from the National Archives[:add]
[add:] Reynold COPCOT d. after John Middelburg, [Holland], 1598 [:add]
[add:]the will was proved in London , 1608 [:add]
[add:] Alice HAMPTON half-sister of Reynold COPCOT by Elizabeth LONDON 's 2nd marriage to Henry PLANCKNEY mentions John COPCOT in her will of 1577 also available at the National Archives, although it doesn't state he is her half-brother[:add]
[add:]She mentions Elizabeth COPCOTT as her mother[:add]
[add:] Reynold COPCOT is not mentioned but he is wealthy, more so than a Cambridge academic, and her other beneficiaries are her grandchildren[:add]
[add:]If the wills of John COPCOT Elizabeth LONDON PLANCKNEY COPCOTT or Adam COPCOTT his putative parents, could be found these may make the situation clearer but I have not yet found them[:add]
