Of Hall Oak, Frognal Lane, Hampstead. Architect at Cambridge of the Divinity and Literary Schools; of Selwyn College, and of the additions on a large scale to Newnham College. At Oxford, his buildings include the Robinson Memorial Tower at New College; buildings at Merton and Oriel Colleges; the Library at Somerville; Mansfield College, and the Indian Institute. At Manchester. the restoration of the Cathedral and the designing of the John Rylands Library. Designed the Butler Museum and class-rooms for Harrow School; the Quinquentenary Building for Winchester; for the Grammar School, King's Lynn, and for the Harpur Girls' School, Bedford; also architect for Bedford College in Regent's Park. His church work included the 'Perpendicular' Church of St Mary Star, at Hastings. Received the Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of Architects, 1912. Author, A Quiet Corner of England; Henry Merritt; Art Criticism and Romance; Memoirs and Correspondence of Coventry Patmore. Married and had issue.
