As a result of All sorts and conditions of Men, the People's Palace in Mile End, London, was built and opened in 1887. Also the originator of the 'Society of Authors'; first Chairman, 1884. His great work, a new survey of London (founded on Stow and Strype), was begun in 1894. General editor of The Fascinations of London, a series of handbooks to London topography. F.S.A., 1894.
