Bell and Sons Ltd., of York House, Portugal Street, London. Responsible for the publication of many valuable contributions to English Letters, including Wheatley's definitive edition of the complete text of Pepys' Diary; Elrington Ball's edition of Swift's Correspondence; Postgate's Corpus Poetarum Latinorum and and Bibliotheca Classica. Latterly undertook the publication of Sir Guy Laking's work on European Arms and Armour. F.S.A. Served on the Council of the Publishers' Association, 1896-1926; President, 1906-9. Edited and contributed to a series of Monographs on English Cathedrals (Bell, Cathedral series); edited Lessing's Laokoon; also Goethe's Early Letters, etc. Translated Wilhelm Meister's Travels.
