Thomas, yeoman. B. at Swanton Morley, Norfolk. School,
Swanton. Scholar, 1587-91. A learned Hebraist, and
celebrated Non-conformist divine of the Brownist party.
Entered the service of a bookseller at Amsterdam, about
1593. He soon founded an independent church there, where
he laboured for many years. He married, Mar. 29, 1607,
Margery Halie, of Ipswich, widow of Richard Appleby. He
paid two visits to Ireland, but nearly all his labours were in
the Netherlands. Died c. 1623. For a full account of his
many religious and controversial works, see the D.N.B. His
origin and connection with Cambridge were generally unknown
