Thomas NASH Matric. sizar from ST JOHN'S, Michs. 1582. S. of William (and Margaret), minister. Bapt. at Lowestoft [ Suffolk ], Nov., 1567. Lady Margaret Scholar, 1584 ; B.A. 1585/6 . Resided nearly seven years in Cambridge [ Cambridgeshire ]. Probably expelled for his share in Terminus et non Terminus wherein he played the Valet of Clubs. The well-known dramatic author. Settled in London , c 1588 . Endeavoured to gain the patronage of the Earls of Southampton and Derby, but failed to retain the favours of any patron long. Engaged in the Martin Mar-prelate controversy during which he was closely associated with John Lyly and Robert Greene. Maintained a bitter controversy with Gabriel Harvey until both authors were ordered by the licensers of the press to desist, 1599 .
