Graduated (7th Junior Optime) by way of the mathematical tripos, despite his dislike of that 'utterly futile and inhuman subject.' Assistant master at Oxford Military College, Temple Cowley, 1889-90; at Clifton College, 1890; at Trinity College, Glenalmond, 1891-7. Secretary of the Royal Institute of British Architects, 1897-1907. Author, At the Gate of Samaria; The Morals of Marcus Ordeyne; The Glory of Clementina Wing; Jaffery; Simon the Jester; The Fortunate Youth; Stella Maris, The Town of Tombarel.
