Sec. of the London Bankers, 1863; Chairman of the Committee of London Clearing Bankers, 1898-1913. M.P. for Maidstone, 1870-80; for London University, 1880-1900. P.C., 1890. It was owing to his efforts that the Act was passed establishing the August bank holiday; this was for some time afterwards known as 'St Lubbock's Day.' Vice-President of the Royal Society.
