"His object in taking the M.A. degree was no doubt to qualify for a dispensation to hold Gt Bedwyn [ Wiltshire ] with Rockhampton [ Gloucestershire ]; for some reason he did not obtain the dispensation. It is stated that, although he ostensibly vacated Gt Bedwyn [ Wiltshire ] in 1774, the next five incumbents of that parish were merely locum tenentes for his convenience."
