Grieg, Edvard Hagerup. Hon. Mus.D. 1894. The musical composer. Of Scottish ancestry, the name being originally Greig; his father and grandfather were British Consuls at Bergen, Norway. B. there June 15, 1843. Educated at the Conservatorium at Leipzig, and at Copenhagen. Went in 1867 to Christiania, where he taught for about 8 years. Lived near Bergen on a pension given him by the Norwegian Parliament. Made his first appearance in England at the Philharmonic Concert of May 3, 1880. Died Sept. 4, 1907.
