V. of Ringwood with Harbridge and Bisterne, Hampshire , 1869-78. Lady Margaret Preacher, 1870. Hon. Canon of Winchester, 1874. Had great knowledge of the Eastern Church. Assisted, in 1858, in the monastic and heraldic parts of the catalogue of MSS. in the University Library, and, in 1864, laid the first stone of the south wing of the (old) Library. Author, The Holy City; Historical Notices of Jerusalem ; and works for the Roxburgh Society and Rolls Society. Died Jan. 26, 1878, at Ringwood. His friends collected £300 to found the George Williams prize in his memory. There is a bronze tablet, with a portrait bust in relief, designed by W. Burgess, R.A., in King's Chapel.
