WILSON, EDWARD ADRIAN. Adm. at CAIUS, Oct. 1, 1891. 2nd s. of Dr Edward Thomas (Exeter College, Oxford, 1851), of Cheltenham (and Mary Agnes, dau. of Bernhard Whishaw, of Hadleigh, Suffolk ). B. July 23, 1872, at Cheltenham. School, Cheltenham College. Matric. Michs. 1891; B.A. (Nat. Sci. Trip., Pt I, 1st Class) 1894; M.B. 1900. At St George's Hospital. Medical Officer, Zoologist and scientific artist with Captain R. F. Scott's first Antarctic expedition, 1901-4. Head of the Scientific Staff on the second expedition, 1910, reaching the South Pole with Capt. Scott, 1912. Died about Mar. 27, 1912, on the return journey from the pole. 'He was one of the most valued and best loved members of the expedition.' Received the Polar medal, 1904 and (posthumously) the patron's medal of the Royal Geographical Society. Married, 1901, Oriana Fanny, dau. of the Rev. Francis Abraham Souper, of Bedford. Memorial in Caius Chapel and an inscription on the stone fireplace in his College rooms; the flag, with the College arms, which he carried to the Pole, hangs in the Hall.
