Appointed chaplain and preceptor to Princess Catherina of Braganza, 1661 ; accompanied her to England , 1662 .
Engaged in a theological controversy with Stillingfleet, 1671 .
Charged with complicity in the murder of Sir Edmund Berry Godfrey, 1678 .
Escaped to the Continent [ Europe ].
Returned to England under James II; reinstated in Somerset House as chaplain to the queen dowager.
