Member of His Majesty's Council in Nova Scotia, 1816. Assisted in extinguishing a serious fire; the exertions led to a breakdown in health followed by a paralytic stroke. Returned to England for treatment in Dec. 1816. but never recovered his health and resigned 1824. Lived subsequently in retirement at Hampton, Middlesex . Married and had issue. Author of correspondence on the subject of Roman Catholic Missionaries. Died Dec. 23, 1828, at Hampton; buried at Esher. ( St John's Coll.
