Private tutor to Thomas Sheridan, elder son of Richard Brinsley Sheridan, living with his pupil at Wanstead, Bognor and Cambridge, 1793-1806. Describes his intercourse with his pupil's father as 'one of eternal insult, mortification and disappointment'; his salary was 'usually in arrears and his letters of protest unanswered.' Caricatured by Gillray. Retired to Norwich. A collection of books, given by him for the use of his successors in the Chair of modern history formed the nucleus of the Seeley memorial library.
