Member for Colombo in the first Reformed Legislative Council, 1924; sat latterly for Colombo South; Vice-President for some years until his death. President, Ceylon National Congress. One of the earliest leaders of the Nationalist Movement in Ceylon. Knighted, 1925. Married Amelia Louisa Grace, dau. of Jacob de Mel, of Colombo, and had issue. Died May 5, 1930.
