Gave to the University a choice anatomical collection formed by Thomas Lawrence (1711-1783) which formed the nucleus of the anatomical museum. Gunning gives an account of a dispute in which Pennington was attacked by Busick Harwood, Professor of anatomy. The following epigram is attributed to Bishop Mansel: ""'For female ills when Pennington indites, Not minding what, but only how he writes, The ladies while the graceful form they scan, Cry with ill-omened raptureKilling man!'
